Pro Baseball: Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox

Josh Beckett pitched five innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs Friday in the Boston Red Sox's 10-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Beckett graduated from Spring High School.

Beckett is a 1999 graduate of Spring High School where he was a two-time high school all-American in his junior (1998) and senior (1999) seasons. The Florida Marlins made him the second overall pick in the 1999 Major League Baseball draft and two years later after 39 minor league games. Beckett posted a 14-1 minor league record during 2001 with a 1.54 ERA and 203 strikeouts in 140 innings. He was named Baseball America's minor league player of the year the Florida Marlins' minor league player of the year and Baseball America first-team minor league all-star starting pitcher. On Sept. 4 2001 he made his Major League debut and made four starts for the Marlins going 2-2 with a 1.50 ERA. After going 6-7 with a 4.10 ERA in 23 games for Florida in 2002 Beckett went 9-8 with a 3.04 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 142 innings during the 2003 season. That year he helped the Marlins win their second World Series and Beckett was named MVP of the Fall Classic after his complete game five-hit shutout of the New York Yankees in the series-clinching Game 6. Beckett went 9-8 for Florida in 2004 and 15-8 in 2005 before he was traded to the Boston Red Sox prior to the 2006 campaign. After a 16-11 record and 5.01 ERA in 2006 his first in Boston Beckett went 20-7 with a 3.27 ERA in 30 starts for Boston in 2007. He was an American League all-star and finished second in the AL Cy Young Award voting before being named MVP of the American League Championship Series as he helped the Red Sox to the World Series title. He won double-digit games in 2008 and 2009 during which he was an AL all-star before going 6-6 in an injury-plagued 2010 season. Beckett was born May 15 1980 in Spring. Read more...

Pro Baseball: Joshua LaRoy Barfield, Lehigh Valley Ironpigs

Joshua LaRoy Barfield went 1 for 5 with one RBI in the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs's 9-5 loss at the Rochester Red Wings on Friday. Barfield graduated from Klein High School.

Barfield is a 2001 graduate of Klein High School and a fourth-round selection (120th overall) of the San Diego Padres in the 2001 Major League Baseball draft. He made his Major League debut with San Diego on April 3, 2006 and appeared in 150 games for the Padres that season hitting .280 with 13 homers and 58 RBIs. Shannan Aleatha Kelm was released from custody, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. A bond of $5,000 was set for Mrs. Kelm, who is listed as living at 8241 Pinecrest in Spring (77389). Kelm was reportedly arrested on one charge of theft - $50-$500. Read more...

The county clerk in Montgomery County reported the following arrests on July 9:

Mario Joel Buitron was arrested on alleged charges of assault causing bodily injury (family violence). Buitron's address is listed as 2803 Fox Mountain, Spring, TX 77386.

Giovanna Ibs Carbajal, of 3314 Dawnwood Drive, Spring, TX 77380, was arrested on alleged charges of possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).

Javier Hernandez Jr., of 5419 Imperial Grove Drive, Houston, TX 77066, was arrested on alleged charges of DRIVING W/LIC INV W/PREV CONV/SUSP/W/O FIN RES and driving with an invalid license and previous conviction.

Wilfred Joseph Labbe was arrested on alleged charges of DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED 2ND and driving while intoxicated 2nd. Labbe's address is listed as 4119 Belgrade, Houston, TX 77045.

Lisa Marie Maggard was arrested on alleged charges of public intoxication. Maggard's address is listed as 3116 North Millbend Drive, Spring, TX 77380.

James Willia Mcmillan, of 28819 Loddington, Spring, TX 77386, was arrested on alleged charges of burglary of a home.

Geor Medina-Carabajal was arrested on alleged charges of property theft (greater than $500, less than $1,500). Medina-Carabajal's address is listed as 20731 Sleepy Hollow Drive, Spring, TX 77388.

Amy Doriene Morales, of 4545 S. Panther Creek Drive #1236, The Woodlands, TX 77381, was arrested on alleged charges of property theft ($20 to $500) check, assault causing bodily and injury family violence.

William Tyle Stephens, of 7819 Teal Trail, Spring, TX 77389, was arrested on alleged charges of possession of marijuana (less than two ounces) and possession of a penalty group 1 controlled substance (less than 1 gram).

Jerry Allen J. Valdez, of 25650 I-45 #602, Spring, TX 77386, was arrested on alleged charges of evading arrest or detention.
