Houston Grand Opera Repertory Theatre to offer 'opera camp' for kids
Registration for "Create an Opera" camp, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25 through July 29, is now open for registration.
The Texas Repertory Theatre Company and the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) collaborated to bring the camp to northwest Houston.
Professional teaching artists from HGO will conduct the class. Participants will read a selected story to create the opera, using story boards to write scenes, design sets, write the chorus, perform mini-auditions for principal and chorus roles, work in teams to build sets, props and costumes, and rehearse. The kids will perform their opera on the last day of camp, Friday, July 29.
Registration per student is $298 with sibling discounts available. Campers need to be entering third through sixth grade in the fall of 2011.
The camp will take place at The Texas Repertory Theatre, 14243 Stuebner Airline Road, just north of the intersection of FM 1960 West (Cypress Creek Parkway).
This camp is expected to fill early, and only the first 26 campers to register can participate. For registration and additional information, call 281-583-7574 and press 2.
