Klein Forest wrestler makes school history
Lashundria Renee Carter became the first female wrestler from Klein Forest High School to participate in the girls wrestling state tournament.
Carter had to wait for a call that would give her the chance at regionals in nearby Katy after finishing third at districts and being named an alternate.
“I received the call saying if we could get there by noon and if she could make weight, she was in,” said coach Jonathan Clark, according to a press release.
Carter made weight for the 148-pound weight class, and after falling to the consolation bracket, she won her last match, which qualified for her the state tournament.
“Making it to state was my goal this year,” said Carter, who started wrestling three years ago. “My best friend is who got me interested in the sport, so I tried it and really liked it. Over the years, I’ve worked hard and have gotten better with practice and discipline.”
She and seven other grapplers from the Klein Independent School District took part in the state tournament held Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Austin ISD Delco Center in Austin.
