Navy admiral visits Spring High School

Sprig High School welcomed Rear Adm. David F. Steindl, commander of the Naval Service Training Command, on April 5.

Steindl met with more than 300 Navy JROTC students at the school to speak about the many career opportunities available in the Navy and the skills they will obtain through the program. “One of the great things about the Navy is that almost all career fields are open, including anything from a dentist to a financial accountant,” Steindl told the students.

His talk included advice on leadership, current events and his time served in the Arabian Sea after the attack on the World Trade Center.

Steindl expressed his admiration of the program and thanked the students for their participation, urging them to continue their focus on education, telling the cadets, “Education is the basis for your future accomplishments.”

The Navy JROTC program is instructed by retired Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. It promotes citizenship and leadership development while stressing the Navy's core values and the fundamentals of naval operations. There are programs operating in 612 high schools across the U.S.
