Roberson Middle School competes at Science Olympiad

The Roberson Middle School Science Olympiad team competed with 29 other schools April 13-14 at the State Science Olympiad at Texas A&M University.

Several team members scored in the top 10 in individual and small group events, and the team earned 21st place overall.

"I think the kids all had an experience to remember," said Coach Kathy Hoke in a press release.

Events in the Science Olympiad are like those in a track meet; individuals and teams compete for medals and points that add up to the overall score for their team.

The students trained for the Olympiad on their own time, learning to collaborate with their partners and teammates.

"Making it to the state level is quite an achievement, and it is such a pleasure to see them take pride in their efforts and accomplishments," Hoke said.

Roberson placed in the top 10 in these events:

Awesome Aquifer: Blake Butschek and Oscar Trevino, fifth place
Storm the Castle: Joel White and Will Castille, sixth place
Rocks and Minerals: Tom Nguyen and Will Castille, sixth place
Food Science: Essence Guidry and Brooke Trenck, seventh place
Road Scholar: Victoria Bugtong and Essence Guidry, ninth place
We've Got Your Number: Kevin Le and Nathan Bolton, tenth place
Naked Egg Drop: Nathan Bolton and Ethan Selestino, tenth place

Roberson Middle School is at 1500 South Ridge Road in Houston.
