Tomball library announces May programs

A list of May events has been released by the Tomball library, located at 30555 Texas 249.

The Pokemon League will take place at 6 p.m. on Mondays and at 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays to teach guests to play the Pokemon trading card game. The library will be closed on May 28 for Memorial Day.

The Children's Afterschool Chess club will be held at 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday in May to teach guests beginning and advanced chess strategies from Dr. Van Piercy. Ages 8 and up.

At 10:15 a.m. on May 15 a practice SAT test will be hosted by Kaplan in the Children's Activity Room. Registration is required. Call 832-559-4235.

The Inspirational Book Club will take place at 7 p.m. on May 10 to discuss “Thunder and Rain” by Charles Martin in the Friends of Library Room on the first floor.

The Art Explorers program will be held at 4:30 p.m. on May 8 and 1 p.m. on May 14 to teach children to create a circle art picture inspired by the artist Kandinsky. Registration begins Monday, April 30. Call 832-559-4235.

The Paranormal Book Club will be held at 7 p.m. on May 14 to discuss “Graveminder” by Melissa Marr.

R.E.A.D. Will take place at 4:30 p.m. on May 15, allowing kids ages 4 through 12 to meet Reading Education Assistance Dogs Sheba and Brandy.

The After Austen Book Club will happen at 7 p.m. on May 21 to discuss “Sylvester” by Georgette Heyer.

At 4:30 p.m. on May 22 the Kids Garden Club will invite anyone over the age of 5 to meet in the children's department and taste what was grown in the garden.

The Mother Daughter Book Club will take place at 7 p.m. on May 23 to discuss “Girl Overboard” by Justina Chen Headley.

The Mystery Book Club will happen at 1 p.m. on May 24 to discuss “Rain Fall” by Barry Eisley.

Computer basics courses will also happen at 9 a.m. on May 3, 10, 24 and 31, as well as PowerPoint basics classes at 7 p.m. on May 9, 16, 23 and 30.

Another computer course will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 11 and 25 to teach adults how to create and manage computer files and folders.

The basics of Microsoft Word will be taught at 1 p.m. on May 15, 22 and June 5 and 12.

At 7 p.m. on May 15 a computer class will be held to teach adults the basics of iPads, Kindles and Nooks.
