Spring Branch ISD hosts sand sculpture competition
Northbrook Middle School art teachers Stephanie Walton and Loren Gardner hosted the first Teen Sand Sculpture on May 16 at Stewart Beach in Galveston.
The teachers were inspired to create the event to let their students experience sculpting as a professional in teams led by their art teachers.
Thanks to a grant from the Spring Branch Education Foundation and HEB Kempwood, generous funding was provided, which included buses to transport students from across the area.
Eighteen teams competed in the event; La Marque Middle School’s “Mermaid” won the third-place Bronze Trovel, the Silver Shovel was presented to Spring Branch Middle School’s “Lucky 13,” and Landrum Middle School’s “LMS Titanic” won the Golden Bucket.
