Spring Woods HS grad Chris Snyder plays in historic baseball game

Spring Woods High School graduate Chris Snyder was a part of baseball history Wednesday night.

Snyder and his team, the Houston Astros, were on the wrong side of history, however.

Matt Cain pitched a perfect game, the 22nd in major league history, as he struck out a career-high 14 and got help from two spectacular catches to beat the Houston Astros 10-0 on Wednesday night.

Snyder, a catcher, went 0-3 in the first Giant’s perfect game ever. On the season, Snyder is batting .188, with three home runs and 16 RBIs.

Snyder attended Spring Woods High School and the University of Houston. In 2001, Snyder started every game and hit .316; he also led the team in home runs, hits, doubles, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and hit by pitches. He was named All-Conference USA second team and also played for Team USA hitting 1 home run and having 9 RBIs. In 2002, he hit .348 with 15 home runs and 70 RBIs.

Snyder had been drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft, but chose to attend college. He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft.
