Young professionals group hopes to inspire summer reading

To encourage reading this summer, books and backpacks were recently distributed to Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) families.

The donations were handed out by the Alliance of MAM Young Professionals (AMP) June 16.

Each child was able to fill a bag with books to take home, and new backpacks were raffled every 15 minutes. Families were also given tips to encourage reading based on a child’s age.

“We had a good turnout at the event and everyone had fun. It was really great to see the children and their parents so excited about the books and backpacks they were taking home,” said Elizabeth Krautkremer, AMP president, in a press release.

AMP is a group of young professionals, ages 22-35, who plan quarterly projects to support MAM’s programs. Members create ideas, coordinate all events and program logistics and represent the group in the community.

“Since AMP’s creation two years ago, we’ve seen tremendous growth and momentum within the group. Upcoming events include a fall festival and an after-gala fundraising event,” said Krautkremer.
