Lakewood Yacht Club to host coastline financial workshop
The Lakewood Yacht Club will host “Cost and Benefit of Protecting the Texas Coast from Storm Surge,” a financial workshop, from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28.
The workshop will feature presentations by Norwegian economists Frederik Huizinga, head of sector climate and regional economics for the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, and Dale Morris, senior economist with the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
Huizinga and Morris will discuss methodologies and outcomes of cost-benefit analysis for coastal protection in the Netherlands, and how it relates to the Galveston Bay ecosystem. Seventy percent of Dutch GDP is produced below sea level. Additionally, 60 percent of the Netherlands’ population lives below sea level. Huizinga and Morris will discuss how both of these factors have driven the Netherlands to develop strong coastal protection projects.
A social time before the presentation will be held at 4 p.m., followed by the keynote speakers from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
To RSVP for the event, call 832-536-3250.
The Lakewood Yacht Club is located at 2425 NASA Parkway, Seabrook.
