Spring Woods High School grad Snyder scores twice in Astros loss

Former Spring Woods High School star Chris Snyder went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two walks as the Houston Astros fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7 on Tuesday, July 3.

Snyder, a catcher, is batting .188 with three home runs, 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored in 38 games played this season.

The Seattle Mariners drafted Snyder in the 1999 amateur draft but he did not sign, electing to attend the University of Houston instead. He was then drafted in the second round (68th overall) of the 2002 amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Snyder spent parts of seven seasons with Arizona, making his Major League Baseball debut Aug. 21, 2004, before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2010 in a five-player swap. Snyder signed with the Astros as a free agent Jan. 20, 2012.

Snyder was born Feb. 12, 1981, in Houston.
