Spring Woods standout Snyder blasts solo homer for Houston

Spring Woods High School standout Chris Snyder hit a home run, but the Houston Astros fell to the San Francisco Giants 5-1 Friday, July 13.

Snyder went 1-for-4 in the game.

On the season, Snyder is batting .192, with four home runs and 19 RBIs. The Seattle Mariners drafted Snyder in the 1999 amateur draft but he did not sign, electing to attend the University of Houston instead. He was then drafted in the second round (68th overall) of the 2002 amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Snyder spent parts of seven seasons with Arizona, making his Major League debut on Aug. 21, 2004, before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2010, in a five-player swap. Snyder signed with the Astros as a free agent on Jan. 20, 2012.

Snyder was born Feb. 12, 1981, in Houston.
