Sheriff charges suspect in connection with a fatal shooting

A local man has been charged in connection with a June 22 double-shooting at 412 Cypress Ave.

Derrick Demond Williams, 25, faces a murder charge after Corey Wayne Comeaux, 30, died from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a Harris County Sheriff's Office news release.

Deputies say Williams allegedly shot the wheelchair-bound Comeaux and a 35-year-old woman just after 10:30 a.m. June 22.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered Comeaux lying on the ground bleeding from his head and the second victim sitting in the garage bleeding from her leg, according to the release. Comeaux was taken to the hospital, where he died the next day.

During the investigation, witnesses identified Williams as the shooter. He turned himself over to investigators on June 25, according to the report.
