Spring ISD plans to repurpose old smartphones for use in classrooms

The Spring Independent School District is seeking donations of used smartphones for a new pilot project for its schools.

The smartphones will be used as Wi-Fi devices at Carl Wunsche Senior High School, Roberson Middle School and Dueitt Middle School. Students are permitted to use their own smartphones in class for educational purposes, and the donated phones will be lent to students who do not have smartphones. Donated devices will have all prior information removed by the district's technology department.

Sought devices include Blackberries, Androids or iPhones and their power cords. The phones can be dropped off at the Gordon M. Anderson Leadership Center's reception area at 16717 Ella Blvd.

Businesses with donations can donate in person at the center or arrange for pickup by contacting Christina Allen-Crowder, the district's community relations director, at 281-891-6012.
