Carl Wunsche Sr. High School selected for prestigious pilot program
Carl Wunsche Sr. High School has been selected to participate in a prestigious pilot program for advanced placement students.
The program, piloted by the College Board and University of Cambridge International Examinations, will groom students to think critically and globally. Skills they need to thrive in higher education and an ever increasing interconnected world, according to a Spring Independent School District news release.
"It is an honor to be involved with highly respected programs like Advanced Placement College Board and Cambridge in breaking in a new program. As part of that inaugural group, our kids will be leading the way for other students and be better prepared for post-secondary education," said former Wunsche principal and new executive director for college and career readiness Debbi Koch in the press release.
Koch says two teachers from Wunsche, Crystal Chapman and Dana Tabor, attended training to implement the program, which focuses on project collaboration and presentation skills.
High school juniors in the program will take an interdisciplinary investigations and critical reasoning class, honing their writing, researching and collaborating skills and seniors will participate in a capstone research project that ends with a 5,000 word academic paper graded on communication skills, methodology, plan and design.
Students who successfully finish the program will be recognized for their accomplishments with the AP/Cambridge Capstone Credential, according to the press release.
