Habitat for Humanity presents family with new home
The Quintero family and Habitat for Humanity workers celebrate at the site of the family's new home.
The Quintero family now has a new home thanks to the efforts of the Klein United Methodist Church and Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County.
The home in Northwest Houston’s Hamill Crossing community was dedicated July 28, according to a press released by Habitat for Humanity.
The Quintero's purchased it with a no-profit loan and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to fund more Habitat for Humanity projects. The family also put in more than 350 hours helping to build their home and other homes. Helping with the construction of the house is one of the many requirements for owning a home built by Habitat for Humanity crews.
The Klein United Methodist Church’s fundraising efforts exceeded the amount needed to build the home and their volunteers provided the labor for construction. The Quintero home was a special project for the church in honor of the late Helen Smith, whose final wishes were for funds to be donated in her memory for a Habitat for Humanity project. Rev. Nancy Kellond offered the opening prayer at the dedication ceremony and Dr. Orin Smith presented the ceremonial key. Rev. Kathy Coble gave a blessing for the home.
The house’s construction marked the 194th home built by the Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County. For more information on the organization, visit www.habitatnwhc.org.
