Houston Tennis Association invites seniors to join leagues

The Houston Tennis Association's seniors leagues start up in September.

The Houston Tennis Association's seniors leagues start up in September.

Tennis is often called the sport of a lifetime because people of any age can compete and enjoy the game.

The Houston Tennis Association is running multiple senior tennis leagues beginning in September that fall into either super senior or"super senior plus categories. The super senior league is available for players 60 and older, while the super senior plus league is available for players over the age of 70. Individuals looking to play more are not limited to joining only one league. As long as they meet eligibility requirements, they can play as much as they want. To join, memberships to the Houston Tennis Association and United States Tennis Association are both required, as well as a $20 registration fee.

ADDRESS: 3535 Briarpark Drive, Suite 215, Houston, TX 77042
DATES: Registration deadline: Tuesday, Sept. 4; Leagues start Tuesday, Sept. 18

WHY YOU SHOULD GO:  The Houston Tennis Association's senior leagues allow older players to compete against one another and enjoy each other's company. Multiple leagues are available for both men and women, and there are two skill divisions within each league to balance the playing field. Memberships to the HTA and USTA are required, but these also allow access to play in other teams and leagues.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "All 50-and-above leagues play three lines of doubles once a week for an 8- to 10-week season.  Houston champions advance to sectional events hosted by USTA Texas. Last year, our 4.5 Senior Men's team advanced to Nationals. Congrats to the Houston Racquet Club's Michelada Mates for representing Houston at the highest level of USTA league competition." — Allison McLendon, league coordinator
