Deer Park High School releases varsity football schedule
Deer Park High School released its varsity football schedule for the upcoming season.
The Deer were a perfect 5-0 in district play, but were bounced in the second round of the state playoffs by Pearland last season. Coach Chris Massey enters his ninth season, aiming to take Deer Park deeper into the post-season in 2012.
The Deer will open the season on the road for their first two contests, visiting the Clear Lake High School Falcons at District Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, and the Spring High School Lions at Spring's George Stadium at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6.
Deer Park will be at home for its next three contests, taking on the Clear Creek High School Wildcats at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, Homecoming against the Dickinson High School Gators at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and opening district play against a tough Port Arthur Memorial High School Titans team that played into December in 2011 at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
The Deer will head back out on the road to visit district opponent the Sterling High School Rangers in Baytown at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, before hosting fellow district foe West Brook High School Bruins at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.
Friday, Oct. 19 could be the biggest test of the season for the Deer as they travel to La Porte High School, looking to avenge a 34-31 defeat this past September. The Bulldogs averaged 46.8 points per game in 2011, going 12-2 before falling to Port Arthur in the Division II state regional semifinals.
After a bye week in late October, the Deer will host the Channelview High School Falcons for Senior Night at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.
The final week of the regular season will send Deer Park to Houston to visit the North Shore High School Mustangs to close out district play.
Should the Deer qualify for the postseason, the first round of the 5A Texas playoffs would begin Friday, Nov. 16.
Deer Park plays its home games at Clyde Abshier Stadium, located at 710 W. San Augustine St., in Deer Park.
