The Village at Gleannloch Farms will hold early registration for the presidential election from 1:30-4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21.

The event will allow residents and the public to register to vote or sign up for a mail-in ballot well before the Tuesday, Oct. 9 state registration deadline. According to a press release, the event is being coordinated by Beverly Johnson, a 71-year-old resident at the senior retirement community.

"It is one of our biggest rights in a democracy, and we should not take it for granted," Johnson said in the release. "The only way we have a voice is to vote. If you do not vote, you lose your voice."

Johnson, who has voted in every election since 1960, came up with the idea of early registration after learning that many people forget to change their addresses or re-register when they move.

"People do not really think about it until it is time to vote," she said. "At that point, it is too late, so it is important to take care of this before the deadline."

The administration at the retirement home also hopes the public with take advantage of the early registration service.

"People move all the time, whether it is to our community, or to Tomball, Spring, Klein or Houston," said Kathy Johanns, the executive director of The Village at Gleannloch Farms. "We want to make things easier on everyone, and we look forward to helping the community by hosting this event."

To RSVP for the event, call 877-312-2140.

The Village at Gleannloch Farms is located at 9505 Northpointe Blvd., in Spring.
