American Heart Association honors Houston Northwest Medical Center

The American Heart Association presented five awards to staff at Houston Northwest Medical Center.

Houston Northwest Medical Center has earned several Get With the Guidelines awards from the American Heart Association.

Houston Northwest was honored with the Heart Failure Gold Plus Achievement Award, the Stroke Silver Performance Achievement Award, the Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Bronze Performance Achievement Award, the Resuscitation Bronze Achievement Award and the Resuscitation Participating Hospital designation.

"Earning this many awards has truly been a team effort that recognizes the contributions of our nurses, allied health professionals and medical staff," said Linda Mercier, chief executive officer at Houston Northwest, in a press release. "Programs like Get With the Guidelines help us develop and implement acute and secondary prevention guideline processes for the benefit of our patients and the community."

The Get With the Guidelines initiative gives hospitals and care centers a series of procedures to enhance their health care programs.

Houston Northwest met the 24-month guideline of 85 percent compliance for heart failure measures to earn the Heart Failure Gold Plus Achievement Award. The hospital's 12-month performance of 85 percent compliance with stroke measure earned the Stroke Silver Performance Achievement Award.

"It is quite an accomplishment to receive these awards from American Heart Association," said Mercier. "We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and achievements in cardiac and stroke care."

Houston Northwest Medical Center is a Cycle III Accredited Chest Pain Center. It offers care and treatment for heart patients, providing such services as balloon angioplasties and bypass surgery options. The center is located at 710 FM 1960 W. in Houston.
