Northbrook graduate earns Marine status
Houston native Marine Corps Pvt. Yazmin C. Martinez Cuatro has earned the title of United States Marine. Cuatro earned the title after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C., on Aug. 14. A 2009 graduate of Northbrook Senior High School in Houston, Cuatro spent 13 weeks traineing in multiple subjects, including close-order drill, marksmanship with an M-16A4 rifle, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies. In addition, one week prior to graduation, Cuatro was put through a 54-hour final test called "The Crucible." Upon completion, Cuatro and her fellow recruits were presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.
