Spring residents blamed for alleged workplace injuries

A restaurant employee is suing after, he says, he suffered serious burns on the job as a result of unsafe work practices.

Gerardo Mata Castillo filed a lawsuit Aug. 16 in the Harris County District Court against Spring residents Jose Rodriguez Esparza and Rosalina Esparza, both doing business as Ostioneria 7 Mares, citing negligence.

Castillo says on July 29, his leg was seriously burned while working at the defendants' restaurant at 826 Zoe St. The injuries occurred when hot grease splattered on him as he poured it from a container, according to the brief.

Castillo is seeking damages and court costs. He is being represented in the case by Friendswood attorney Michael Martinez.
