Salem Lutheran School begins year with new laptops

More than 200 students at Salem Lutheran School began this year with new laptops as part of the school's technology initiative.    The one-to-one laptop project provides MacBook Air computers to students in grades 5-8 for use in class and for homework, according to a press release from the school. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade will use laptops, iPads and iPods in their regular classrooms and special technology classes.    Steve McEwin, Salem Lutheran School director of technology, said the goal for the initiative is to help students learn 21st-century skills at an early age.    Social studies teacher Dave Boldt, who is teaching a geography class completely online this year, said he thinks the technology upgrades are positive for the school.   "I am looking forward to the students being excited about using their MacBook Airs for class," Boldt said in the release. "They will no longer need to carry textbooks back and forth.
