Spring dominates Deer Park in Thursday night clash
Doroland Dorceus rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns to help the Spring High School football team roll to a 46-19 win over Deer Park on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Turner Stadium.
Dorceus scored on runs of 19 and 28 yards to propel Spring to its first win of the season. Xavier Jones also scored a pair of TDs, rushing for 52 yards for a score in the first quarter then catching a 12-yard TD pass from Robert Whitaker in the fourth.
Whitaker rushed for two touchdowns as well, and finished with 66 yards on the ground, as he completed six of eight passes for 75 yards. The Lions churned out 537 total yards of offense.
Deer Park only trailed 21-14 at halftime but came out slowly and managed only five points in the second half. The highlight plays for the Deer saw Jacob Hickman return a kickoff 87 yards for a TD, and Josh Rutherford snagging a 54-yard TD pass from Connor Means.
The Deer finished with just 183 yards of offense and a 1-1 season record.
Spring will play at Dekaney on Friday, Sept. 14 and will play Klein Collins on Thursday, Sept. 20. Both games will begin at 7 p.m. The Lions play at Klein on Saturday, Sept. 29 in a 6 p.m. game.
Deer Park will play host to Clear Creek Friday, Sept. 14 and will host Dickinson the following Friday, Sept. 21. The Deer will then play host to Port Arthur Memorial on Friday, Sept. 28. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.
