Domenick Cora, Doel Cora, Darleene Porrata-Doria and Luis Bilbraut are raising money for the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Walk to End Alzheimer's, hosted by The Village at Gleannloch Farms, will take place Saturday, Sept. 22.

September is World Alzheimer's Month, and The Village at Gleannloch Farms has a team of 70 residents and employees who are joining together to form a fundraising/walking team for the Northwest Houston Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Darleene Porrata-Doria, head of housekeeping at The Village, is especially involved in the annual walk. Porrata-Doria helped care for her grandfather, who had Alzheimer's for years, and she and her three sons will participate in the walk.

"It was hard for me to watch him go from being an active, independent man to someone who became dependent and forgot how to do things," she said in a press release. "This walk is so important to me. I am doing it for Pa Pa. When I walk, I feel like he's looking down on me and smiling because I'm taking time to do this for people who need it."

The event is open to the public. Instead of an admission fee, a donation is suggested.
