Houston Northwest Medical Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 25 for its new front entrance and expanded patient care areas.

The Mall Expansion Project is part of the hospital's efforts to create a front entrance that faces FM 1960 and enlarging the existing Medical Malls. The area now has a larger patient registration area, patient care areas, valet reception, patient care and space for retail and conference room options.

"Houston Northwest Medical Center has 39 years of generously supporting this community and their expansions over the years — including this latest one — represent a significant economic boost for our community," said Barbara Thomason, president of Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, in a press release. "Houston Northwest Medical Center is a key employer in the area and their growth is our growth."

Earlier this year, the hospital opened the new Houston Northwest Urgent Care Center at 7306 Louetta Road. The new facility, staffed by emergency physicians and nurses, provides emergency care, on-site laboratory services and X-ray work.

In addition to this year's projects, Houston Northwest has recently expanded its emergency department and intensive care unit, renovated its postpartum and surgical intensive care units, remodeled the North Tower patient rooms and opened the Ed Roberson Heart Center.

The Houston Northwest Medical Center opened in 1973. The medical facility employs 600 medical staff and offers a variety of surgical services, heart center, sleep disorder center and women's atrium for women's health. It also routinely offers screenings and seminars in the community. The current CEO is Linda Mercier.
