Northwest hosts event promoting breast health

Houston Northwest Medical Center recently held a free breast health event at the center’s Breast Center.

According to a press release, the event provided attendees with information about breast health, a soothing chair massage, a strolling dinner and a non-alcoholic drink called a “pinktini.” The event also featured a tour of The Breast Center, on-site mammogram scheduling and bone density screening.

The next Mammograms, Pinktinis and You Event will be held in May. To register or to schedule a mammogram, call 281-580-0000.

Empty Glass Wine Bar holds ribbon cutting

The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed The Empty Glass Wine Bar and Tasting Room as its newest member with a ribbon cutting ceremony Oct. 6.

According to a press release, the honors were performed by owners Michael Kelly and Dana Kelly with manager Amber Brown, Dede Drexler, Wes Burke of Burke Carpet Cleaning Services and Kathy Haas of d&k Photography.

Spring man completes Goblin Gallop at age 80

Ray Boytim, 80, from Spring completed the Goblin Gallop 5K on Oct. 6 in Deer Park.

He finished in 34:18.

A total of 192 runners finished the 5K race, which was held at Dow Park.

Eric Sanchez was the men’s overall winner with a time of 17:14, and Lauren Wilder was the winner in the women’s category with 18:55.

Bush Branch Library to screen ‘Funny Face’

The film “Funny Face,” starring Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn, will be shown at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Barbara Bush Branch Library.

Senior Classic Movie Mornings are held the second Friday of each month at the library, which is located at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.

Klein Classic Golf Tournament raises $114,000

The Klein Classic golf tournament raised $114,000 on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Gleannlock Pines Golf Club.

Despite the rain, 180 golfers participated in the event, which raised grant money for the Klein ISD Education Foundation.

The tournament was renamed the A.K. Buddy Brown Klein ISD Education Foundation Golf Classic this year. Brown is a long-time supporter of the district.

“To have my name associated with this tournament is an unbelievable honor,” Brown stated in a release. “To actually see the benefits the KEF does for our school district is so rewarding, and this tournament has been going on for 11 years because it’s a total group effort that makes it all work.”

The team of Mike Holt, Jeff Williams, Brian Greeney and Bob Anderson won the tournament.

The Diamond sponsors of the tourney included Campus Kids, Dupre Energy Services and White Oak Energy. Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott helped support the event by sponsoring golf carts.

More than $15,000 was raised in a silent auction and raffle as well. Items were donated by the Parent Teacher Organizations, volunteers and business partners.
