Spring athletes in action: College football

The following football players, all with Spring high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Ken Jones, Sam Houston State University
High school: Klein Collins High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, at Northwestern State
About Jones: Jones is a 2007 graduate of Klein Collins High School, where he was first team Academic All-District. In his junior and senior seasons, Jones was part of the team the was 18-4. He also helped lead the team to the district championship and regional semi-finals.

Jesse Beauchamp, Sam Houston State University
High school: Klein Collins High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, at Northwestern State
About Beauchamp: A redshirt as a true freshman in 2009, Beauchamp is a 6-foot, 225-pound junior linebacker for the Bearkats. At Klein Collins, he recorded 94 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 5 sacks in his senior season, when he was District 13-5A Defensive Player of the Year for coach Drew Svoboda. Beauchamp was 1st Team All-Greater Houston.

Charles Jackson, Central Connecticut State University
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, versus Bryant
About Jackson: Jackson is a 2011 graduate of Klein Collins High School, where he was a defensive back on the football team for coach Drew Svoboda. As a senior (2009-10) he helped his team to an 11-1 record and a district title before falling in the second round of the state playoffs. Jackson made 73 tackles, of which 50 were solo stops, while also posting three interceptions and five pass breakups. He was first-team all-district that season. During 2008-09 as a junior Jackson made 75 tackles and posted five interceptions to earn second-team all-district accolades. He was ranked as the second best cornerback prospect in the country in the class of 2011 by Scout.com while earning a top 10 ranking at the position by Rivals.com. Jackson also earned a spot among SuperPrep's top 30 players in the Lone Star State. He was born Aug. 16, 1992 and is the son of Rick and Yolanda Parker. He is from Spring.

Andrew Zorn, Colorado School of Mines
High School: Klein High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, at Chadron St.
About Zorn: Zorn is a 2011 graduate of Klein High School, where he was a two-year letterman on the football team. As a senior (2010-11) Zorn was a second-team all-district honoree after leading Klein to the area finals. He was also academic all-state. During his junior campaign (2009-10) Zorn was academic all-district after helping his team to the state semifinals. Off the gridiron, Zorn participated in wrestling and was a member of a team that won the district title and qualified for the regional competition. In the classroom Zorn was a member of the National Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society. A native of Spring, he is majoring in petroleum engineering at Colorado School of Mines.

Jon Lewis, Texas Christian University
High School: Klein Oak High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, versus Kansas State
About Lewis: Lewis is a 2011 graduate of Klein Oak High School. As a senior on the gridiron he compiled 89 tackles and 13 sacks to earn all-District 13-5A accolades during the 2010-11 season. Lewis chose to play football at Texas Christian University over offers from Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, California, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Oregon and Texas Tech. The son of Chris and Rhonda Lewis, he is majoring in business at TCU. Lewis is from Spring.

Keshawn Hill, Sam Houston State University
High School: Klein High School
This week:Saturday, Nov. 10, at Northwestern State
About Hill: As a true freshman in 2011, he was the fourth-leading rusher for the Bearkats. At Klein High School, Hill was first team all-district, team captain and Most Valuable Player for coach Shane Hallmark. He helped lead the squad to area finals in 2010 and state semi-finals in 2009, and he rushed for 1,715 yards in 2010, with eight TD runs of more than 60 yards.

Ridgeway Frank, Sam Houston State University
High School: Spring High School
This week:Saturday, Nov. 10, at Northwestern State
About Frank: At Spring High School, Frank was first team All-District and All-State running back for coach Sonny Karas. He carried 103 times for 718 yards and six touchdowns as a senior, earning district "Offensive Most Valuable Player" honors. He also ran on the district championship 4x100 relay team, and qualified for regionals in 4x100, 4x200 and 100m dash.

Ja-Mes Logan, University of Mississippi
High School: Spring Westfield High School
This week:Saturday, Nov. 10, versus Vanderbilt University
About Logan: Logan is a 2009 graduate of Westfield High School, where he played football for coach Corby Meekins. Logan was a two-time first-team all-District 13-5A honoree and a Jerry Rice Wide Receiver of the Year nominee. Logan was a SuperPrep all-region selection and the No. 84 player in Texas for the class of 2009. He was rated as the No. 85 wide receiver in the country by ESPN and No. 124 by Scout.com. Logan caught 40 passes for 793 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior (2008-09). He collected all-greater Houston accolades from Touchdown Club of Houston. Logan had 21 receptions for 325 yards and six scores during 2007-08 as a junior. Born Oct. 1, 1989 the son of Glenda Logan, he is majoring in criminal justice at Ole Miss. Logan is from Houston.
