Spring athletes in action: College football
The following football players, all with Spring high school ties, have scheduled action this week:
Henry Kaetzer, Colorado School of Mines
High school: Klein High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, at Chadron St.
About Kaetzer: Kaetzer is a 2008 graduate of Klein High School, where he was a two-time letterman on the football team. He earned the team's most improved player and best defensive lineman awards in addition to second-team all-district accolades. Kaetzer helped Klein make the playoffs in each of his final two seasons (2006-07 and 2007-08) including a second-place finish in the district. Off the gridiron, he was a member of the National Honor Society. A resident of Spring, Kaetzer is majoring in petroleum engineering at Colorado School of Mines.
Anthony Watson, University of Memphis
High school: Spring Westfield High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, versus Tulane
About Watson: Watson is a 2010 graduate of Westfield High School, where he starred at safety and wide receiver on the football team for coach Corby Meekins. As a senior (2009) Watson made seven or more tackles in seven of his team's 11 games ending the year with 96 total tackles, including 32 solo stops, eight passes defended, one fumble recovery and two interceptions. He served as the Mustangs captain during his senior campaign. In addition to football, Watson also ran track at Westfield. The son of Kendra Kelley and Anthony Watson, Sr., he is from Houston.
Luke Muncie, LSU
High School: Klein Oak High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, at Mississippi State University
About Muncie: Muncie is a 2010 graduate of Klein Oak High School, where he played football for coach David Smith. He was a three-star prospect as rated by Rivals.com and Scout.com while ESPNU named him the No. 26 safety prospect. Muncie was a member of the SuperPrep Southwest Team and was invited to play in the 2010 Under Armour All-American Bowl. As a senior (2009-10) Muncie was a first-team all-district selection after recording 71 tackles, including five for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. As a junior (2008-09) Muncie was also first-team all-district after posting 78 tackles, four interceptions and seven pass break-ups. He made 67 tackles and forced three fumbles during 2007-08 as a sophomore. Born Nov. 22, 1991 the son of John and Kkelly Muncie, he is majoring in sports administration at LSU.
Justin Moreno, Southwestern Oklahoma State University
High School: Klein Oak High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 10, at Harding
About Moreno: Moreno is a 2011 graduate of Klein Oak High School. He was an honorable mention Houston Metro Area selection and Klein Oak's special teams most valuable player. Moreno was a three-time winner of the player of the game award and earned a spot in the 2011 Blue Chipper All-Star Senior Bowl. The son of Michal and Angel Moreno, he is majoring in nursing at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Moreno is from Tomball.
