Jenkins Elementary students participate in Thanksgiving feast
Jenkins Elementary School students Ethan Tynefield, left, Neilani Green and Makenzie Robbins are dressed for dinner, a kindergarten Thanksgiving tradition at the school.
Kindergartners at Jenkins Elementary School recently prepared their fifth annual Thanksgiving feast Thursday, Nov. 15 in the kindergarten hallway.
After studying different patterns in math class, the students demonstrated what they had learned by creating American Indian necklaces and vests, according to a press release.
The students also read stories about life in early America in language arts and social studies classes.
"When we wrote about the facts we learned, we shared our ideas about whether it would be more fun to be a pilgrim or a Native American," Yohely Santiago, kindergarten teacher, said in the release.
As part of their science education, students made butter and learned how liquids become solids. The eventual feast included turkey, pumpkin pie, popcorn and cranberries.
Mildred I. Jenkins Elementary School is located at 4615 Reynaldo Drive, Spring.
