Music superstar conducts busy life
Westfield High School’s Jordan Brokken has his sights set on performing with a processional symphony, and his heart set on doing outreach for his community. Not only is Brokken a musical superstar, he’s a scholarly one: The senior is an Interlochen-Emerson scholar. He’s won many awards, participated in a litany of band and other music-related events and still finds time to pursue the rank of Eagle Scout.
Jordan Brokken AGE: 17 GRADE: 12 SCHOOL: Westfield High School ACCOMPLISHMENTS: All-state band; three concerto competition wins; performed with Houston Symphony; Interlochen-Emerson scholar; Brevard Music Festival participant; Interlochen Fine Arts award recipient FAVORITE CLASS: Band. He says he feels lucky to be at Westfield and believes the school has the best music educators in the state. FAVORITE AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITY: Boy Scouts (he is an Eagle Scout candidate) and youth orchestra. FAVORITE WEBSITE: He likes Facebook because it allows him to stay in touch with those who have similar interests across the nation. FAVORITE TV SHOW: “Big Bang Theory.” FAVORITE MOVIE: “Toy Story” has been his favorite from childhood. AMBITION: His ambition is to perform with a professional symphony and do outreach.
