Youngsters can learn handbells from elves
Jingle Bell Choir classes, sponsored by The Woodlands Mall, will be offered Saturday, Dec. 1, in The Woodlands.
The children’s classes will run from noon to 3 p.m.
Santa’s elves will be teaching little ones how to play holiday handbells.

Barbara Bush Branch Library holds open house
The 10th annual community open house at the Barbara Bush Branch Library will be held Saturday, Dec. 1.
Planned at the open house are food, entertainment and holiday decorations with the library staff, volunteers and the Library Friends.
The event is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room, 6817 Cypresswood Dr., Spring.
The event is free, and no registration is needed.

Advanced Excel class to meet at LSC-Tomball
An advanced Excel computer class will meet at the Lone Star College Tomball Community Library from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30.
This class is designed for those who have completed the Excel: The Basics class series and want to learn more about the advanced features of the program. The second part of this class will take place from noon-2 p.m.
The all-ages group will meet in the Room L216 at 30555 Tomball Parkway.
The event is free. Registration is not required.

AAR animal shelter seeking more volunteers
The Abandoned Animal Rescue shelter is seeking volunteers to help keep the shelter running.
The shelter needs at least 22 volunteers each day to handle tasks such as caring for the dogs and cats, working at the front desk, doing laundry, cleaning the shelter and maintaining the yard, according to a shelter press release.
Volunteers can choose to commit to a weekly day and time, help out in special situations or help at fundraising events.
Community service volunteers can earn hours by volunteering at the shelter. Anyone interested should contact the shelter first to set up a meeting. Volunteers are also needed to write grants, help with fundraising efforts, marketing and promoting the AAR.
AAR is at 419 E. Hufmith Road, Tomball.

Salem Lutheran plans online, dinner auctions
Salem Lutheran School will hold Miracles Happen online and dinner auctions beginning Sunday, Dec. 2.
The online auction opens Sunday, Dec. 2 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 9.
The dinner auction will be held from 6-11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Tin Hall in Cypress. It will feature silent and live auctions with a catered meal and dancing. Shay Domann will provide the music.
Tickets for the adult-only dinner are $50 and can be purchased online at https://salem4u.smartevents.com.
Donations are still needed for the event. Suggested items include iPad mini, iPods, Kindle Fire, Wii, golf packages, hunting accessories, children’s toys and electronics, gift cards to restaurants, a vacation home weekend and tickets to events including sports, museums, movies and concerts.
So far, the school has raised $6,000 for the event, but underwriting opportunities are still available. An additional $14,000 is needed for the event to be completely underwritten so all proceeds can go directly to the fundraiser.
Free child care will be offered the night of the event. Child care reservations can be made by contacting Sheri Losoya at slosoya@salem4u.com by Saturday, Dec. 1 to secure a spot.
