Spring athletes in action: Women's basketball
The following women's basketball players, all with Spring high school ties, have scheduled action this week:
Alexis Durley, University of Cincinnati
Position: Guard
High school: Spring Dekaney High School
This week: Sunday, Dec. 2, versus Xavier University
About Durley: Durley is a freshman guard for University of Cincinnati. The Houston native, a 2012 graduate of Spring Dekaney High School, was selected as athlete of the week by the Houston Chronicle during her sophomore year. During her senior year, Durley scored 856 points, had 467 assists and 407 steals. The health education major is the daughter of Adrien and Sharon Durley.
Allie Brandenburg, Oklahoma Baptist University
Position: Guard
High school: Concordia Lutheran High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, at Central Oklahoma
About Brandenburg: Brandenburg is a junior guard for Oklahoma Baptist University. She is a 2010 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball. The physical therapy major is from Spring and is the daughter of John and Jeanne Brandenburg.
Veja Hamilton, Texas Christian University
Position: Guard
High School: Kingwood High School
This week: Sunday, Dec. 2, versus University of Houston
About Hamilton: Hamilton is a freshman forward and guard for Texas Christian University. She is a 2012 graduate of Kingwood High School, where she was a McDonald's All-American nominee. Hamilton was ranked the No. 18 overall rated wing in the country, according to ESPN, HoopGurlz. A four-star rated combo guard, she was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-state list in March, scoring 2,228 points. Hamilton is from Spring.
Emily Tapia, Huston-Tillotson University
Position: Guard
High School: Spring High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, at Texas Wesleyan University
About Tapia: Tapia is a freshman guard for Huston-Tillotson University in Austin. The Spring native is a 2012 graduate of Spring High School.
Nadine Ndip, Vanderbilt University
Position: Guard
High School: Klein High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, versus Tennessee Technological University
About Ndip: Ndip is a sophomore guard for Vanderbilt University. She is a 2010 graduate of Klein High School, where she was a two-year captain and starter and three-year letter winner. As a senior, she received first team all-district and academic all-district honors, was voted team MVP and selected to the Spring Branch All-Tournament Team. A member of the National Honor Society, she graduated cum laude. The Spring native is the daughter of Amuel and Geraldine Ndip.
Shunta Nevitt, Texas Tech University
Position: Forward
High School: Spring Dekaney High School
This week:Saturday, Dec. 1, versus Lamar University
About Nevitt: Nevitt is a freshman forward for Texas Tech University. She is a 2012 graduate of Spring Dekaney High School in Houston, where she made the academic all-district team. The Houston native, a human sciences major, is the daughter of Octavius Nevitt and Mozell Frazier-Nevitt.
Ana Dominguez, McMurry University

High School: Klein Oak High School
This week:Saturday, Dec. 1, at University of Arkansas, Fort Smith
About Dominguez: Dominguez is a freshman forward for McMurry University. A 2012 graduate of Klein Oak High School in Spring, she was a four-year letter winner for the Panthers and a three-time all-district selection. She also was selected academic all-district and was a member of the National Honors Society. The Spring native, a business major, is the daughter of Mike and Dawn Dominguez.
Gevenia Carter, University of Central Florida
Position: Guard
High School: Westfield High School
This week:Sunday, Dec. 2, versus Bethune-Cookman University
About Carter: Carter, a 5-foot-8 senior guard for the University of Central Florida, is a 2009 graduate of Westfield High School. She was the 12th-ranked shooting guard prospect in the country out of high school, according to ESPN.com. The Houston native is the daughter of Telekia Foots and Charles Carter and is majoring in hospitality management.
Simone Hopes, Tennessee State University
Position: Forward
High School: Westfield High School
This week:Saturday, Dec. 1, at University of Montana
About Hopes: Hopes is a senior forward for Tennessee State University. She is a 2009 graduate of Westfield High School in Houston, where she was selected to the All-District 13-5A first team, and named to the Greater Houston Area All-Star team as a senior. Hopes is from Houston and is the daughter of Ron and Sandra Hopes.
