Spring school nutrition workers host gingerbread contest

The Spring Independent School District Child Nutrition Department held its annual gingerbread contest Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Hundreds of child nutrition workers from 38 Spring ISD campuses participated in the contest at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School.
According to a press release from the school district, teams from each school assembled elaborate gingerbread houses. The teams began building the houses two weeks before the contest during school breakfast and lunch periods. The gingerbread houses were required to be 85 percent edible, and fit in an 18-by-26-inch bun pan. Final submissions were judged during the Dec. 12 gathering at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School.
This year's contest submissions featured a wide range of themes, including penguins, the Houston Texans, Winnie the Pooh and more. Bammel Elementary School won the People's Choice Award for its Houston Texans–themed house.
Additional contest winners included Spring High School, Dueitt Middle School, Ponderosa Elementary School, Burchett Elementary School, Marshall Elementary School and Heritage Elementary School.
No prizes were awarded; however, students from each school entered a drawing for a chance to take home their school's gingerbread house for the holidays.
Wunsche Sr. High School is located at 900 Wunsche Loop, Spring.
