Klein ISD nurses receive award for wellness programs
Klein Independent School District school nurses Yvonne Clarke and Linda Rosemeyer were recently given the Texas Department of State Health Services Award for Excellence in Texas School Health.
According a district release, the award includes a $1,500 grant per nurse for continuing student programs aimed at preventing childhood obesity.
Clarke, of Schultz Elementary School, directs Shape Up Schultz, a health and wellness program for the whole family. The release noted that Shape Up Schultz's activities include a jogging club for students, families and staff, bike safety seminars and partnerships with the Methodist Hospital and the YMCA.
Rosemeyer, of Greenwood Forest Elementary School, heads up Greenwood Grizzlies Get Fit. According to the release, the program features monthly interactive activities, a school garden project that gives students a chance to grow their own vegetables and healthy cooking seminars.
The two nurses will be recognized for their work in January at the Texas Department of State Health Services awards banquet.
