Klein High School wrestling coach celebrates victory milestone
John Banas, Klein High School's head wrestling coach, won his 300th career dual meet against Clear Brook High School on Thursday, Dec. 6.
Banas began his coaching career in 2000 and has since been successful at the helm of three high school wrestling programs, according to a press release from the school district.
Banas started wrestling programs at Strait Jesuit High and Cy-Fair High in Houston, where his teams placed in the state tournament, earning him two Texas Coach of the Year recognitions.
He took over the KHS program in 2008, and the Bearkats have won four district championships under his leadership. During his tenure at Klein High School, Banas was named District Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2012.
Banas is currently working toward a fifth-straight district championship and hopes to earn a berth to the University Interscholastic League Region Championship, according to the release.
Banas will receive a plaque from the school's Wrestling Booster Club at the parent/senior night at 5 p.m. prior to a meet Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the high school.
Founded in 1938, Klein High School is part of the Klein Independent School District. It is at 16715 Stuebner Airline Road, Klein.
