Spring Independent School District honors Debi Koch

Debi Koch has won the 2012 National Career Academy Coalition Exemplary Educator Award.

Debi Koch, executive director of college and career readiness at the Spring Independent School District, has received the 2012 National Career Academy Coalition Exemplary Educator Award.

According to an announcement from the school district, the 2012 National Career Academy Coalition Exemplary Educator Award is presented to an educator "who has made significant contribution to the success of a career academy."

Koch opened Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, the district's career academy, in 2006 and served as its principal until 2012. During her principalship, the academy earned state, national and international recognition, according to the district.

Koch is a resident of Spring.

The honor was presented Tuesday, Dec. 18.
