Cookie decorator, blogger now published author
Bridget Edwards writes the popular Bake at 350 blog, and she recently released her first book, "Decorating Cookies: 60+ Designs for Holidays, Celebrations and Everyday."
However, with the release of “Decorating Cookies: 60+ Designs for Holidays, Celebrations and Everyday,” she has done just that. Edwards, a resident of The Woodlands and a graduate of Klein Oak High School, who also runs the popular blog “Bake at 350,” had no experience with this kind of baking when she first became a stay-at-home mom, but with perseverance and dedication, she has almost mastered it.
“When my son was born almost 14 years ago, I left my real job to stay at home, and I had this idea that I wanted to learn how to make those decorated cookies,” Edwards said. “I had no idea how to do it. I’m not a baker. I’m just a mom.”
She was a quick study, and before long, she wanted to spread her knowledge to a wider audience. Edwards said that when she was just starting out, there were few resources that were aimed at beginners, as most required some familiarity with the work. As the blog’s readership expanded, it only made sense to make a book version.
“The book is just really an extension of the blog,” Edwards said. “In the blog, I show step-by-step pictures, so that’s exactly what the publisher was looking for. We came up with all new cookie designs for the book.”
One of the most notable features of Edward’s recipes, in addition to the cookies themselves, is the beautiful photography she uses to display them. Since starting the blog nearly six years ago, Edwards has taught herself some stunning photography skills, though she admits there were bumps along the road.
“If you go back to my very first posts, the pictures are very scary,” Edwards said with a laugh.
Because of the success and enjoyment she has received from her cookie projects, Edwards has no plans to stop writing. Although specifics are not yet available, Edwards and her publisher are currently working on another book. Regardless of what the subject matter turns out to be, the most important part for Edwards is enjoying the work she is doing.
“My favorite part is seeing the finished product,” Edwards said. “I love when it’s finished, and I can put it in a little treat bag and tie a bow on it.”
