Volunteers help parents document babies' experiences in NICU
Spring resident Darla Vazquez celebrated Valentine's Day by creating a special memory with her son, Samuel, who has spent more than six months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children's Newborn Center.
Volunteers from First Memories Texas, an organization that supports the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children's Hospital, are helping parents create scrapbooks and cards documenting their baby's NICU journey.
According to a press release from the hospital, volunteers from First Memories take professional photographs of babies in the NICU, print them for parents, and provide scrapbooking supplies and support so that parents can create albums or cards that adorn baby's isolette or crib.
Texas Children's Hospital is located at 6621 Fannin St., Houston.
